Geologic Time
Geologic time is the development of the Earth including it's physical formation. This includes life from the first single celled organism like bacteria and first low lying plants on land. It is a list of Earths major points in history starting when it Earth was created 4.6 billion years ago!
There are four major era's. The Precambrian, the Paleozoic, the Mesozoic, and the era we are in today, the Cenozoic. Inside each of these major eras, there are smaller periods of time.
How Does An Era End
An Era will end when a mass extinction happens. A mass extinction is when about 80% of the plants and animals and other living things die. They become extinct. Take the dinosuars for example. They were very large reptiles that roamed the land during the Mesozoic Era. Scientists believe that a large space objct fell to Earth causing dust and debris to cover the sky. They believe this ended the dinosaurs and is what ended the Mesozoic Era.
